Wednesday Evening before Thanksgiving, Bell Road, November 27, 1974

Candid conversation at 177 Bell Road, Scarsdale NY, early evening.
In order of first speaking: Grandma (Anna Reitano Strangio), Aunt Katie (Kate Reitano), Chris, Mark, Grandpa (Vincent F. Strangio)

After Mark and I left Aunt Julia's house, we walked back to Grandpa's house on Bell Road where we stayed for the night. I switched on the recorder while I was sitting in the living room with Grandma and Aunt Katie. In the distance, we hear Grandpa talking on the phone to Aunt Julia two blocks away at 169 Gaylor Road about when she would come over for Thanksgiving dinner and when she would return home. They cannot agree; Grandpa wants her to stay until the early evening, whereas Julia wants to be home before dark. Both Aunt Julia and Grandpa seemed to enjoy disagreeing, he insisting that going home early makes no sense and she expressing a discomfort about returning home after dark.

Later in the conversation, Grandpa brought some chestnuts he had earlier roasted in their oven. Aunt Katie gets quite involved talking about a dream she had. My brother Mark was in the room but did not participate in the conversation knowing that I had the recorder on.
